Rios Lodge, Pacuare Project, Pacuare UNESCO Biosphere, Costa Rica
Project Name: Pacuare Gallo-Jimenez Conservation Lands
Project Size: Approximately 300 acres
Project Year: 2023
Project Purchaser: TBD
About the Project
In partnership with the Rios Lodge, Project RAFA, and the local Gallo-Jimenez family, CHAII brings together three very different organizational structures to achieve phenomenal success and impact. Building off 35 years of development, the Rios Lodge is a for-profit eco lodge business that is supported by investor capital. Project RAFA is an emerging conservation non-profit in Costa Rica supporting and leveraging Rafa Gallo’s legacy. The Gallo-Jimenez family has not only been instrumental developing the eco-tourism operations of Rios Tropicales (once the largest rafting business in Central America), but it has focused on the direct purchasing of conservations lands in an effort to protect the Pacuare Watershed. The old Rios Tropicales lodge continues its journey as the Rios Lodge.
Rios Tropicales and the Gallo-Jimenez family have also collaborated with governmental and multi-national agencies/organizations in eco-tourism, conservation, and sustainability throughout the world (having co-founded the International Rafting Federation). By combining the for profit, non-profit, and family holdings this project has the potential to impact and reach well beyond the Pacuare watershed.
Project Location
The Pacuare Project sits within the Pacuare UNESCO Biosphere in the Costa Rican province of Cartago. The Pacuare is one of the few remaining free flowing rivers in Costa Rica and supports primary rainforest bio diversity, the Carbecar Indigenous population, the local populations of El Tigre and Turrialba, and provides for one of the top ten whitewater adventure travel experiences in the world.
The surrounding family lands have been part of a reforestation effort that began approximately 35 years ago. This project will conclude the reforestation efforts of all these lands currently allocated for conservation purposes.

Vulcan Barva, Aljuela Province, Adventure Park, Costa Rica
Project Name: Adventure Park Costa Rica
Project Size: Approximately 400 acres
Project Year: 2023
Project Purchaser: TBD
About the Project
The Adventure Park property in the Aljuela Province has become the premiere mountain biking destination in Costa Rica. With over seven downhill trails and a recently completed VELO pump track (the only one currently in Central America) it has become the first stop for international mountain biking tourists as well as weekly visits from Costa Rican nationals. Part of their success involves additional trails, zipline canopy tours, and onsite food – this allows for multiple use of the property – it is not only catering to mountain bikers. The layout of the trails provides hiker specific and mountain biker specific trails to minimize conflict between the user groups.
Our Work
Our specific partnership with Adventure Park involves consulting in accommodations, strategic events and groups, and further diversification of additional lands adjacent to the current business.
